HAZARD WHO MIGHT BE HARMED AND HOW ACTION TO BE TAKEN AND OWNER COMMENTS INCLUDING TIMESCALES WHERE APPROPRIATE
Rugby is a collision sport and the risk of injury is inherent both in playing and training Players The risk of injury can never be totally eliminated but can be greatly reduced by the following actions:
• No player is allowed to represent the club unless they are experienced and/or assessed as competent with particular regard to key contact areas of tackle, ruck, maul and set-piece by a club coach (min lev 2) or the captain on the day.
• All training sessions are supervised by an experienced coach with the appropriate RFU qualification.
• Coaches will keep themselves up to date with relevant law changes particularly relating to player safety, eg. tackle height
• 17 yo’s will only be allowed to play in the adult side if they actively want to and are assessed as competent by a qualified club coach min. lev 2. Actions ongoing
Match day access to pitches Seriously injured players The captain / team manager / coach must ensure that:
• Ambulance access is kept clear and that the double gates can be unlocked quickly if necessary.
• A mobile phone is available to call emergency services if required.
• Emergency Services will be met at the entrance to the ground and directed to the injured player without delay.
• Appropriate club officials are notified of any injury and appropriate paperwork is completed. Actions ongoing
Minor injuries Players in matches or training Every team including age grades must have at least one player or official with suitable first aid training present at every match or training session.
A first aid kit stocked in accordance with the club first aid policy is available at all matches and training sessions.
Club First Aid Co-Ordinator to carry out a review of training requirements and organize courses as necessary. Actions ongoing








Ongoing
Ground and equipment Players in matches or training Coaches are responsible for ensuring that the ground and all equipment is safe during training sessions with particular regard that:
• Scrum machine servicing is up to date with a current safety plate and pads in good condition.
• Floodlights are safe and are set up far enough away from the training area so that players cannot run or be tackled into them. On match days the club will comply with any relevant RFU regulations and any instructions or requests by the referee.
